Blast of cold weather may have parts of Alberta dip below the freezing mark this week

A blast of cold weather may hit parts of Alberta later this week, with the forecast hinting at overnight temperatures dipping below the freezing mark in some spots.

We may be in the final weeks of summer before fall officially arrives later this month, but shots of cooler weather can be expected. Look at last month, with snow blanketing parts of the province.

Luckily, the risk of freezing temperatures will steer clear of most of the province, including Edmonton and Calgary; however, numerous areas in the Alberta Rockies are currently at risk of seeing temperatures drop below the freezing mark later this week.

Looking at the Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) forecasts for spots like Cadomin, Nordegg, Canmore, and Kananaskis Village, all show the evening of Friday, Sept. 11 dipping below zero.

Cadomin

According to ECCC, the average high for this time of year in Cadomin is 16°C, while the average low is zero.

Nordegg

According to ECCC, the average high for this time of year in Nordegg is also 16°C, while the average low is zero.

Canmore

According to ECCC, the average high for this time of year in Canmore is 17°C, while the average low is 3°C.

Kananaskis Village

Similarly, the average high for this time of year in Kananaskis Village is 17°C, while the average low is 3°C, according to ECCC.

Looking well past this upcoming week, there has been a flurry of early winter forecasts for the province. OpenSnow, a U.S.-based forecast service, is calling for above-normal temperatures for a large swath of Alberta, including areas like Edmonton, Red Deer, Calgary, Lethbridge, and Medicine Hat.
