As US President Donald Trump continues to threaten tariffs on all Canadian goods — and even our sovereignty — more Canadians are ditching trips to the south and staying closer to home.

If you’re looking for somewhere local to explore while supporting the local economy, we’ve rounded up some Alberta spots worth the trip.

From world-famous destinations to underrated gems, here are 10 Alberta spots to check out if you’ve decided to cancel that trip to Florida.

This one’s a no-brainer — Canmore has so much to offer, from amazing restaurants and scenic hikes to cozy places to stay and a charming, walkable downtown. It’s the perfect mountain getaway and a bit more affordable than Banff without sacrificing any of those stunning views.

Kananaskis

Alberta clearly has no shortage of mountains to see, and Kananaskis Provincial Park is another must-visit for outdoor enthusiasts. Whether you’re in the mood for a massive hike or a relaxing day at the Nordic Spa, Kananaskis offers something for everyone.

Jasper is a special that’s always worth a visit, from the charming town centre to the surrounding Jasper National Park. The town and park are recovering after last summer’s massive wildfire, so why not spend your dollars here instead of somewhere far away?

Waterton

Further south in the Rocky Mountains is Waterton Lakes National Park, a stunningly beautiful spot that offers an escape from the busy tourist crowds in mountain parks to the north. It’s the perfect place to unwind and take in the scenery without having to compete for a good view.

Nordegg

Nordegg is a hidden gem nestled in the mountains, often overlooked but worth the visit. It’s got a bunch of cute, affordable cabins, making it the perfect getaway, and it’s close to popular camping spots around Abraham Lake and other Crown Land areas.

Lake Louise

Last but certainly not least, Lake Louise is another mountain destination that is always worth mentioning. From the stunning lake that gives it its name to the other brilliant blue waters in the area, it’s the ultimate spot for nature lovers. For an elevated experience, book a stay at the Fairmont Lake Louise Resort, which offers a special rate for Alberta residents.
