Just as it seemed spring was settling in, winter is making a comeback in Alberta, with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issuing a special weather statement for much of the province.
The weather agency says heavy wet snow will begin Wednesday night over parts of west-central Alberta around Grande Prairie, Whitecourt and Edson.
On Thursday morning, snow will intensify across central Alberta, including the Edmonton area. South of Edmonton, across central-southern Alberta, including Red Deer and areas east, rain mixed with freezing rain is possible before transitioning to snow Thursday afternoon.
The special weather statement is in effect across central Alberta from Grande Prairie to Calgary.

Snowfall amounts of 5 to 20 centimetres are expected across central Alberta by Friday morning, with up to 25 centimetres possible near the Rockies and west-central areas near Grande Prairie.
“Given the warm temperatures to start the week and uncertainty in how fast the snow will fall, confidence in total snowfall accumulations is moderate,” ECCC says.
