All long-term care residents in Alberta who want the COVID-19 vaccine should be immunized by the end of next week, Premier Jason Kenney said Monday.

Speaking at a January 11 news conference, Kenney added the province is also on track to have vaccinated 50,000 individuals by the end of the day. Right now, Alberta is averaging 3,800 immunizations per day.

Kenney also announced on Monday that the province will be expanding the immunization program to include paramedics and emergency medical technicians. Starting Monday, people in those professions will be able to receive their first dose of vaccines.

Healthcare workers to receive vaccine so far include ICU doctors and nurses, staff in long-term care homes, and respiratory therapists.

“We are doing everything we can to administer these life-saving shots as quickly as we can,” Kenney said.
