An Alberta hotel is gaining international recognition, with the general manager of Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge receiving a prestigious award.

The 2025 Historic Hotels Worldwide Annual Awards of Excellence were recently announced, recognizing the world’s finest historic hotels, inns, and resorts across more than 40 countries and celebrating exceptional hoteliers and leadership in heritage hospitality.

Nestled in Jasper National Park, Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge earned top honours, with General Manager Garrett Turta named the Historic Hotelier of the Year. The award recognizes leaders who “elevate hospitality while safeguarding the cultural and historical essence of iconic properties.”

Turta has spent nearly three years guiding the resort through some of its most defining moments, including the 2024 Jasper wildfires, leading his team and the local community to protect the historic property and ensure its future. He is now spearheading a multimillion-dollar renovation that will refresh the century-old lodge while preserving its character.

“Receiving this recognition among such an inspiring group of leaders is a profound honour,” Turta said.

“Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge’s story is deeply rooted in community and a connection to nature. This award is a testament to the strength, passion, and spirit of the remarkable team that brings that story to life every single day.”

Since opening in 1922, Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge has set the standard for luxury in the Canadian Rockies. The 700-acre resort offers the “Grand Canadian Lodge Experience,” combining sweeping wilderness surroundings, timeless charm, and profoundly personal hospitality.

“Garrett’s leadership embodies the Fairmont Spirit, honouring the true meaning of hospitality for guests and colleagues,” said Gregor Resch, regional vice president of Fairmont Hotels’ Western Mountain Collection. “This award and recognition speak to his deep commitment to inspire and support his team at all times.”

Other hotels recognized in the 2025 Historic Hotels Worldwide Annual Awards of Excellence included The Fullerton Hotel Sydney in Australia, awarded New Member of the Year, and Raffles London at The OWO in the United Kingdom, named Best City Center Historic Hotel.
