Health officials in Alberta will provide a live update on COVID-19 on Thursday afternoon.

A release from the Province of Alberta notes that Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw will speak via livestream at a press conference at 3:30 pm MST.

This will be the first press conference held updating the province about coronavirus since Wednesday, when Hinshaw announced that new restrictions would be put in place for hospital visitors.

She also noted that November 25 marked the day that Alberta reached 500 deaths related to COVID-19.

“This is a tragic milestone. My sympathies go out to the loved ones and friends of these individuals who are mourning the lives lost during what is a very difficult time to grieve,” Hinshaw said.

“Though we have put new restrictions in place, I hope that everyone still seeks support, comfort and help in ways that are also safe from COVID transmission risk.”

Alberta has seen cases rise over the past month, with active cases surpassing the 10,000 mark last week.

Alberta has since surpassed Ontario and Quebec to become the Canadian province with the highest active case count at 13,349 as of November 24.

Albertans will be able to view the live press conference at the YourAlberta YouTube channel at 3:30 pm MST.
