If you’re like most people, winning the lottery is a dream come true. Well, that dream just became a reality for this Alberta couple, and they can’t wait to spend their lottery win.
Candice MacDonald and Hughie MacKay from Rocky Mountain House won $707,422.70 on the April 3 LIGHTNING LOTTO draw.
“I look at the win tracker all the time,” MacKay said to Lotto Spot. “If the jackpot is big, I buy [a LIGHTNING LOTTO ticket] on the way to work and one on the way home!”
When he saw the instant-win jackpot sitting at just over $700,000, he knew he needed to give it a shot.
“I texted my partner and told her I was going to win the jackpot on the way home,” he chuckled.
Little did he know how true that would be.

“I called Candice to tell her, and she didn’t believe me, so I had to FaceTime her to show her the ticket!” he continued.
MacKay and MacDonald are already making plans for how to spend their winnings. MacKay said that his plans include “a nice big engagement ring for Candice,” along with a bucket list trip to Nashville to see the Grand Ole Opry and a trip to Mexico for the couple.
MacKay purchased the winning LIGHTNING LOTTO ticket from Rocky Husky at 4520 45 Street in Rocky Mountain House. They won their prize instantly on April 3 with the selection: 2, 10, 32, 48, and 49.
It seems that sometimes dreams really do come true. We wish all the best to the happy Alberta couple on their big lottery win!
