Stunning Alberta spot named a most charming town to visit in the Rockies
If you’re looking for a place to spend some time in the mountains, an Alberta town was just named one of the most charming in the Rockies.
World Atlas, one of the largest geography publishing resources, recently released a list of the 11 most charming towns in the Rockies to visit in 2026, and Canmore made the cut.
Located just over an hour west of Calgary, Canmore is well-known for its stunning mountain scenery and outdoor adventures. It’s a prime destination year-round, filled with opportunities for hiking, biking, skiing, and exploring the surrounding Rocky Mountains.
World Atlas notes the popular Three Sisters, three peaks that have become one of the most recognizable landmarks in Canmore and the surrounding Bow Valley, as well as the town’s rich history, which plays a part in its charming character.

Canmore was originally established as a mining town to support the Canadian Pacific Railway. It served as a key coal-producing hub until the last mine closed in 1979.
In 1981, the town had a new claim to fame. Calgary won the bid to host the 1988 Olympics, and Canmore was chosen to host cross-country and biathlon events, helping the town earn a reputation as an amazing destination for outdoor activities.
Since then, Canmore has grown into a popular destination, offering many of the same Rocky Mountain experiences as nearby Banff without quite as many crowds. The town is also home to plenty of local shops, restaurants, cafés, and galleries, giving visitors plenty to explore.
Out of 11 spots on the list, Canmore and Banff were the only Canadian locations to make the cut.
