Active coronavirus cases continue to trend downwards as we enter the halfway mark of the first week of August.

Alberta has been seeing a decrease in active cases since this past long weekend, dropping from a peak of 1,415 on July 28 down to what now sits at 1,146.

This is still a far-cry from the 335-case low we saw back at the start of June, but it’s at least closer to that than the peak of 2,992 that the province hit at the tail end of April.

New numbers from the province also report 94 new coronavirus cases detected over the past 24 hours, along with two additional deaths bringing totals to 11,240 and 203, respectively.

The past day also saw a decrease in hospitalizations, dropping to just 75 in hospitals beds and 20 in the ICU.

The majority of Alberta’s cases and deaths have been seen in Calgary.
