It’s been nearly 100 years since the Victoria Cougars etched their names into hockey history by defeating the Montreal Canadiens to claim the Stanley Cup in 1925.
Now, the iconic trophy is set to return to Victoria in March 2025, marking the centennial anniversary of that monumental victory.
The Victoria Hockey Legacy Society has announced that the Stanley Cup will be the centerpiece of the Century Celebration, a family-friendly festival scheduled for March 29 and 30, 2025.
The event promises a slate of activities to commemorate the Cougars’ triumph, including a public skate on artificial ice, a songwriting competition, and a gala.

The 1925 victory holds special significance as the Victoria Cougars were not only the second team from British Columbia to claim the Cup but also the last non-NHL team to do so.
Competing in the Western Canada Hockey League, the Cougars took down the NHL’s Canadiens in a four-game series, cementing their place in hockey lore.
Details of the Century Celebration will follow closer to the event in March.
This past year has seen a lot of hockey in Victoria. Earlier this year, the city hosted Hockey Day in Canada, which is rare for an island more known for its surfing than its hockey.
