Victoria’s beloved pop culture celebration, Capital City Comic Con, has officially closed the curtain. After announcing a hiatus in 2023 two years ago, and no word on a 2024 convention, organizers confirmed via social media that the event will not return.

“After much discussion over the past year, we sadly announce that we do not have any future plans for another convention,” read the heartfelt statement.

Capital City Comic Con launched in 2018 and quickly became a staple event for fans of comics, cosplay, and geek culture. Over three conventions, it brought together a vibrant community of attendees, volunteers, sponsors, exhibitors, and special celebrity guests.

Online, people have expressed their gratitude for Capital City Comic Con.

“Capcity was my first ever con and what proved to me I could sell art,” said one commenter.

“This event was a ton of fun and I while I understand how it’s become so much more expensive to do anything these days, I hope something similar is able to take its place,” said another.

While the event’s non-profit status kept it focused on passion over profit, organizers cited challenges in planning future conventions as the reason for the closure.

To commemorate its legacy, a merchandise sale will be held for fans who want a piece of Capital City Comic Con history.
