The end of 2015 marks a new beginning for Vancouver-based alternative pop band The Zolas. Not only does the group’s current lineup now include two fresh faces (drummer/vocalist Cody Hiles and turntablist DJ Abell) alongside original members Tom Dobrzanski and Zach Gray, but also the four-piece has set the release of a new EP for October 2.
The album will be a major departure from the both the cabaret rock sound heard on 2009’s Tic Toc Tic and the desolate atmospherics of 2012’s Ancient Mars — instead, the four-track EP, titled Wino Oracle, will lean more towards a vibrant, experimental pop. It’s also the first collection of songs the band has completely self-produced at Dobrzanski’s own Monarch Studios.
The Zolas will embark on a tour in supporting of Wino Oracle, with a stop in Victoria on September 19 for Rifflandia Festival. Full tour dates are below. For now, fans can enjoy the new effort’s first single, the infectious electro-pop track, “Molotov Girls,” for which the band recently released a music video.
