Woman hit by Lamborghini pace car during Global Relay Gastown Grand Prix (PHOTOS, VIDEOS)

A woman was clipped by a Lamborghini pace car at last night’s Global Relay Gastown Grand Prix women’s race just after 6 p.m.
The incident occurred seconds before riders crossed the finish line after completing the final and 35th lap (42 kilometres) around the city street race course.
The victim, who was a race official, collided with the side mirror of the Lamborghini and suffered minor injuries. Paramedics were called in to take her to hospital, which delayed the start time for the men’s race.

The men’s race was not collision-free either. At least 15 riders were taken out early in the race after they crashed in the third lap at the course’s first turn around Water Street and West Cordova Street.
Nobody was injured, although the riders were not able to take their bikes out of the maintenance pit before the free lap ended. The men’s race was 50 laps (60 kilometres) long.
The Global Relay Gastown Grand Prix is part of BC Superweek, a series of 9 races held over 10 days in the province.
