Woman hit by falling tree in Surrey in critical condition

A woman who was hit by a falling tree in Surrey during today’s windstorm is struggling for her life in hospital.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. on 100 Avenue near 148th Street. At the time, she was walking with her daughter when the tree fell on top of her.

The daughter was able to jump out of the way – she was not injured. The age of the daughter is unclear.

In order to notify the next of kin, police are now attempting to identify the mother, who is being treated at Royal Columbian Hospital with life threatening injuries.

The public is advised to stay at home and only travel if it is absolutely necessary. The streets are currently hazardous with falling trees, loose branches and fallen power lines.
