A woman has been charged with mischief under $5,000 after a Pride flag was burned on UBC’s campus back in February.

Court documents show Brooklyn Marie Fink is facing the charge following an incident that took place on the University Endowment Lands on February 6. The flag was raised on Friday, February 5 as part of OUTweek celebrations on campus and was discovered burned the following Tuesday.

UBC said in a statement that they condemned the incident as an act of hate that was “in contravention of the values of equity, inclusion and respect deeply held by the university community.”

Mayor Gregor Robertson flew the Pride flag outside of Vancouver City Hall to stand in solidarity with UBC the following Wednesday.

Fink is set to make her first court appearance today, April 26.
