Winter storm and snowfall warning issues for Coquihalla Highway

Nov 13 2020, 11:11 pm

Environment Canada has issued snowfall and winter storm warnings for several highways that connect to the Metro Vancouver region.

“Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions,” Environment Canada warned. “Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.”

“Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.”

Environment Canada is asking people to consider postponing non-essential travel through the area until conditions improve.

Heavy snow will persist along the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merrit, with heavy accumulation expected for Friday afternoon. Twenty centimetres of snow has already fallen, and another 25 to 35 centimetres is expected to blanket the ground before Saturday morning.

“Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions,” Environment Canada warns.
