Wine Wednesday: Kim Crawford Pinot Gris

Dec 19 2017, 3:47 pm

Kim Crawford is a great producer in New Zealand. I’m a big fan of their Sauvignon Blanc, and was really excited to find their Pinot Gris on the shelves at BC Liquor last week. The label is elegant, just like the wine itself. This is a great wine to brighten your June-gloom day, or to sip on a patio while enjoying some summer sunshine. Either way, you’ll be happy!

Food pairings

This wine would be great with some light grilled foods this summer. I can imagine that grilled asparagus topped with olive oil and grated parmesan would be a fabulous pairing. Another idea would be a grilled tilapia with an herb pesto and balsamic reduction. When in doubt, pair it with any type of salad or a roast chicken!

Flavour profile

The aroma of this wine is filled with tropical notes: honey, floral, jasmine, and honeydew right on the nose, with some citrus (specifically grapefruit). The taste is immediately refreshing with a sharp acidity and minerality splashing on the palate. The asparagus notes will pair great with the grilled vegetable. There is also a slight pear-tasting sweetness that is perfect for summer.
