John Caldwell, owner of Caldwell Vineyards is a character to say the least. I was lucky enough to visit his winery a couple of weeks ago, and hear his story from the source. He bought a vineyard with little plans to grow as big as he did, but now that he has, the vineyard is doing great. It’s a beautiful place to visit in Napa, and I highly recommend it. But, if you can’t visit, why not try some of his wine at home?
Food pairings
This wine is a big California red, and would be best suited to some delicious grilled steak or a big meat and cheese platter. In fact, we enjoyed our wine with a cheese platter at the winery and I happen to think it was a perfect pairing. If you’re not one for red meat, you can definitely pair this with a roast chicken.
Flavour profile
The bottle is actually shaped a rocket ship taking off, which adds to it’s unique charm. It has a huge hit of berry flavours the minute you open the bottle. I would recommend decanting this wine and letting it sit for about an hour, as the flavours really open up to include slight tannins, balanced acidity, and a very full taste in your mouth with a smooth finish.
