UVA Wine Bar is an elegant and chic bar in the heart of downtown that offers enticing wine experiences. Named the Best Wine Bar by the Georgia Straight Golden Plate Awards 2012, UVA is one of Vancouver’s most romantic night spots that showcases wines from B.C.’s finest cellars. Located next to the Moda Hotel and its sister venue Cibo Trattoria, here you can find both classic and modern drinks to end your night with.
The Luciana ($8) is one of UVA’s signature drinks. The Italian word for illumination, this drink is composed of gin, fig syrup, and lemon juice – a lively and refreshing taste is what’s created.
The Earl Grey Lavender Martini ($8) is a tea-lover’s dream come true. A mixture of earl grey bluestar, gin, lemon juice, and egg white, this is a martini that can be easily be loved by all. Inspired by a cocktail from the famous Pegu Club in New York, this is a drink that surprises and calms your senses at the same time.
UVA serves some delicious bar snacks to munch on alongside cocktails and wine. Their Cod Fritter and Risotto Balls are warm and crispy bar bites that serve well with a variety of drinks.
The highlight at UVA is definitely their wine flights. The Italian South to North Reds Flight ($16) here is a great way to compare the tastes of different wines around Italy. A great way to explore a country of wine without having to hop on a plane!
Last but not least, the Eremiti Zabaione ($10) here is sensational. For those who have trouble pronouncing the name (as I do), it translates to Hermit’s Eggnog. This seasonal cocktail contains rum, frangelico, cinnamon syrup, and egg, making it the perfect night cap for those who are adventurous.
Thank you for reading; see you at my next food adventure!
