It’s time to batten down the hatches and bring in the patio furniture because some high winds are set to blow into Metro Vancouver starting today.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a wind warning for Metro Vancouver, Greater Victoria, and the Southern Gulf Islands.
Starting in the early evening, southeast winds of 70 km/h gusting to 90 are possible, with residents being warned of possible damage ahead.

“A low-pressure centre will track across southern Vancouver Island tonight,” said ECCC in the warning. “Winds will ease early Tuesday morning as the low moves inland and weakens.
“Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. High winds may result in power outages and fallen tree branches.”
Metro Vancouver is in for a mixed bag of weather the rest of the week as well.

Monday and Tuesday will see a chance of showers, so keep an umbrella nearby. The sun is slated to make a mid-week appearance before the rain returns to start the weekend.
Temperatures continue to climb into the double digits, so it may soon be time to leave the heavy parkas at home and break out the raincoats.
