Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for parts of Metro Vancouver and the North Shore, calling for gusts up to 60 km/h.
The wind warning applies to the following areas:
- City of Vancouver – including Burnaby and New Westminster
- Metro Vancouver – southwest including Richmond and Delta
- North Shore – including West Vancouver and North Vancouver
“The passage of a vigorous front will cause strong northwesterly winds of 60 km/h gusting to 80 to funnel down the Georgia Strait and impact Metro Vancouver this morning,” said the weather agency.
“Gusty winds will continue throughout the day and weaken in the early evening hours.”
The weather agency also warned that possible local power outages and downed trees could occur.
