DH Vancouver Staff Feb 15, 2014 10:55 am

Environment Canada has issued a warning that damaging winds up to 100 km/h are expected today and this evening.

A vigorous Pacific front with storm force southeast winds will sweep onto the BC coast today. Winds will shift to westerly gale force as the storm passes this evening. Gale force west winds may cause as much or more damage than higher speed southeast storm force winds. Winds from this storm will ease by early Sunday morning.

On the North Coast, southeast winds of 100 km/h this morning will shift to west 60 to 80 km/h this evening.

On the South Coast, southeast winds will increase to 70 to 100 km/h this afternoon. Winds will shift to west 60 to 80 km/h this evening.

Additionally a second vigorous Pacific front with strong winds presently being tracked is expected to hit the South Coast Sunday afternoon. As a result it is likely that the wind warnings will be continued into Sunday for the South Coast regions as this second storm is expected to generate very strong winds Sunday afternoon.
