Technology today allows us to better manage our health and wellbeing. At TELUS, they care about their customers’ commitment to health and think mobile technology can play a key role in helping you have a healthier lifestyle, whether you’re just getting started or looking for new ways to stay on the right path. One of those ways is with new gadgets like the Samsung GALAXY S5 and Gear Fit.

New software and hardware in the GALAXY S5 is designed to be your personal fitness tracker, leading you through your fitness routines daily and consistently. And, to complete the package, the new, wearable Gear Fit connects to the S5, providing real-time updates on your condition, walking distance, calories, speed, duration and more.

The GALAXY S5 is so feature-packed, TELUS offers Learning Centre sessions, where product specialists can teach you the ins and outs of each device in one of the best in-store experiences around – and they can even teach a thing or two to advanced users!

Here’s five new things in the GALAXY S5 you’ll want to know about:

Fingerprint Scanner

Similar to the iPhone 5S’ biometric fingerprint scanner, the S5 has its own integrated into the home button. The fingerprint scanner lets you unlock the phone and manage PayPal, Google Wallet and Isis mobile wallet securely.

Heart Rate Sensor

The camera flash got a whole lot more intuitive, as it doubles as a heart rate sensor. Launch the preloaded S Health 3.0 app, place your finger over the flash and the S Health app will let you track your heart rate.

The Camera

If you thought the S4 had a good camera, the S5 has an even better one as the rear-facing camera got upgraded to 16 megapixels (up from 13 MP). The front-facing camera is still 2 MP and the autofocus on the rear dropped to 0.3 seconds. The video camera captures live action at 30 fps but at the sharper 4K format.

Water and Dust Resistant

While they can’t call it waterproof, the S5 can withstand 30 minutes underwater, three feet under the surface. So if you drop it in the sink or a puddle, have no fear!

Ultra Power Saving Mode

Did you ever think 10 per cent battery life could last you 24 hours? Samsung says the S5 can. By switching to Ultra Power Saving Mode, the software function limits the processor, deactivates the GPS and switches to grayscale.
