Will you be my Valentine, Chantel Upshaw?

Dec 19 2017, 1:24 pm

“Chantel Upshaw is a singer-songwriter from the Westcoast of Canada, whose inventive, playful edge has found her lately as the alter-ego named ‘Pouty Marlo’. In 2011, Chantel put a name to this ‘blues-mama-from-another-dimension’, as she puts it, living inside her.

Miss Upshaw introduces her inner blues-with-a-twist persona in 2012 in live performance, as well debuting her soul-tinged pop LP, entitled True Tales from Vandaluse. As a teaser, Chantel will release a free digital download EP in February, featuring 5 new songs from the album.

For more ‘Pouty’, stay tuned for the live video rendition of ‘Blues In The Night’ coming in Feb!”

Since it’s Valentine’s Day, I asked her a few questions about this special occasion, so guys listen up!

Do you have plans for today?
Rehearsing with the ‘Foundation’ band for a fundraiser at the Commodore on Friday, then shopping with my set designer for props for my album release show! How romantic:)

What does Valentine’s Day mean to you?

Vday means Hallmark, and making up for any lack of chocolate or presents that one may have stupidly forgotten to give give give throughout the year!

How would you like to spend your Valentine’s Day?

Dancing to Dean Martin with a very rico suave dance instructor. Then a love boat excursion, but ‘Niagara-style’ (as in the Marilyn Monroe film) for extra thrills.

Most memorable Valentine’s Day – best and/or worst?
This is just not my holiday, I always forget about Vday. But, a simple poem was sweet. A horse-and-carriage ride in Victoria & then dinner overlooking the water was lovely. The worst was breaking up with someone! Ha.

What is one thing guys should never give a girl for Valentine’s Day?
Anything functional! Blah. I want something I Want, not something I need;)

Any other tips for the guys on this day?

Chivalry is not dead, gentlemen;) Don’t confuse the feminist movement with being passive or not caring;) IMO, we are different but equal;)

Last question. Will you be my Valentine?
*Blushes-why of course, fit me on your list:)

And there you have it! Chantel Upshaw will be performing at Randy’s Ponzio’s Children Benefit Concert at Commodore Ballroom. Tickets are still available! Here is the Valentine’s Day cover of Frank and Nancy Sinatra’s “Something Stupid” with Dominique Fricot.
