The Ultimate Vancouver Brunch Guide: WildTale Coastal Grill

Dec 20 2017, 5:21 am

We’re taking a tasty tour of Vancouver’s many brunches to create The Ultimate Vancouver Brunch Guide. This week we’re reeling in a delicious brunch at Yaletown’s very own WildTale Coastal Grill.

WildTale, the seafood-focused eatery from John Crook and Erik Heck (owners of The Flying Pig restaurants) has recently started offering weekend brunch.

In honour of this culinary tradition, Chef Erik and his team have begun preparing in-house an array of sweet and savory dishes for mid-morning diners.

Served from 10 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, WildTale’s brunch menu tantalizes the tastebuds with breakfast choices like Vanilla Waffles; Maple-Glazed Bacon; Egg White Frittata; Grilled Farmers Toast with smashed avocado; Steak and Eggs; and a Classic Breakfast plate of egg, crispy pork sausage, and roasted potatoes.

Unsurprisingly, WildTale’s brunch menu also nods to coastal living and boasts a number of seafood selections. There’s a Smoked Salmon Benedict, as well as the restaurant’s signature Crab Cake Benny. One bite and you’ll be hooked.

This dish swaps the traditional English muffin for a round, lightly fried crab cake, which is loaded with succulent, fresh tasting crab meat. Two Hollandaise-coated poached eggs top the cakes, while a light yet satisfying side salad of baby greens and diced tomatoes is there to refresh and cleanse the palate.

More seafood-forward dishes can be found under the lunch heading. Diners looking for more lunchtime-inspired meals can find Oyster Po’boys, a Shrimp Salad, Baked Chicken Carbonara, and a Daily Seafood Trio (composed of rotating seafood and sauces, roasted potatoes, and seasonal veggies) on the menu.

Chicken and waffle fanatics will be happy to note that the Mainland Street eatery serves up a delicious (and generously portioned) version of this Southern-fried classic. Marinated for 24 hours in buttermilk, then dredged in flour, salt, pepper, and a little blackening spice, the chicken is then flash fried and baked in the oven until golden brown. The result, juicy chicken with deliciously crispy skin, which as you can imagine makes for a soul-satisfying dish.

Drink wise, WildTale offers brunch goers a variety of energizing freshly squeezed juices and house-made smoothies to sip on. Those looking for a morning pick-me-up should order The Ginger. Aptly named, this vibrant orange concoction is composed of three simple yet invigorating ingredients: carrot, ginger, and lemon.
