Who will play Christian Grey?

The recent Grey news has left many feeling blue. Sons of Anarchy hottie, Charlie Hunnam has dropped out as male lead and S&M fetishist Christian Grey in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey.

One prominent reason is that the attention was becoming “too much” for the Anarchy star, with sources explaining that Charlie “doesn’t want to be massively famous.” Another is that the actor got cold feet over the heated role.

In a joint statement released by Universal Pictures and Focus Features:

“The filmmakers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.”

Others are hinting that perhaps he was dropped because of the negative public backlash, and the Twitterverse going Fifty Shades of Furious upon news that he landed the soon-to-be iconic role.

Now the big question is, who will play Christian Grey? Potential prospects include: Man of Steel’s Henry Cavill, Taylor-Johnson who is also married to the Fifty Shades movie’s director (and recently portrayed an icy seducer in Anna Karenina), or The Social Networks, Armie Hammer.

Dakota Johnson remains in the co-starring role of Anastasia Steele. However there are now doubts that she will remain the female lead, as on-screen chemistry needs to play the biggest role of all.

So far the only thing tied up is this movie. Production is scheduled to kick off next month in Vancouver.
