The Vancouver Whitecaps have been having one of their best seasons ever — and the fan support seems to be coming along with it.

For this weekend’s playoff match against FC Dallas, the Whitecaps have opted to open up BC Place’s upper bowl.

“It’s been a remarkable season, and our entire club is focused on making this a memorable year for the city and our supporters,” said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps FC CEO and sporting director. “The momentum around the team is unprecedented, and we’re excited to kick off our playoff journey this Sunday with all our fans.”

The Whitecaps’ series will kick off on Sunday, Oct. 26, before heading to Dallas for Game 2 the following weekend. If necessary, the Whitecaps will play Game 3 on home turf once again, hosting Dallas on Nov. 6 for a winner-take-all matchup.

The Whitecaps split the season series with Dallas, having won 1-0 in Texas back in March, but losing the season finale on Saturday by a score of 2-1. This will be the second time these two clubs have met in the postseason, with FC Dallas winning the best-of-three series 2-1.

“This has been a fantastic, record-breaking year for our club, and now we have reached the most important part of the season,” Schuster added. “We will need our supporters now more than ever.”

Have the Whitecaps opened the upper bowl recently?

One man — Lionel Messi — opened the upper bowl almost singlehandedly twice. When Messi’s Inter Miami were in town, the team opened the upper bowl for an MLS match that he ended up not playing in during the 2024 season, while also opening it up for a CONCACAF Champions Cup match earlier this year.

The Whitecaps most recently had the upper bowl open in the playoffs for a 2023 match in Round One against Los Angeles FC that drew a crowd of 30,204, the only other playoff game in their history where the upper bowl was open.
