The Vancouver Whitecaps have released a new face mask, in their ongoing effort to help save the Vancouver Aquarium. The team helped raise more than a million dollars for the Aquarium through the sale of masks back in April, when it was in danger of permanent closure.
This time they’re getting festive, unveiling an ugly Christmas sweater mask that the Whitecaps are calling the “nicest ugly masks on the market.”
There are three limited-edition designs to choose from to match your ugly Christmas sweater this holiday season. All net proceeds for the locally manufactured non-medical masks are benefitting the Vancouver Aquarium and its parent organization, Ocean Wise.
“The holidays are always an important time to help those in need – and our beloved Vancouver Aquarium still needs our support,” said Whitecaps FC CEO Axel Schuster. “We continue to ask all Vancouverites to support the fundraising campaign to ensure that the 70,000 animals who live at the aquarium get the expert care they need.”
Due to limits on gathering numbers during the pandemic, the Aquarium was not able to operate in a financially viable way and was forced to pause all public programming in September. Fundraising helps Ocean Wise provide care for the Aquarium’s animals in the meantime.
“We are so grateful to the Vancouver Whitecaps, and to everyone who has supported the face mask fundraiser, “said Mackenzie Neale, director of animal care at the Vancouver Aquarium. “With ticket sales, cafe and gift shop revenue all but eliminated right now, the face mask fundraiser is part of what is keeping the Vancouver Aquarium going during the pandemic. On behalf of all the animals at the Vancouver Aquarium, thank you.”
Face masks are available through the Vancouver Aquarium online gift shop for $19.99 for adults or $17.99 for kids.
