It looks like Sunday’s watch party is a hit with Vancouver Whitecaps fans.
The Whitecaps are hosting an outdoor viewing party Sunday evening at Terry Fox Plaza outside BC Place, as the club plays its biggest match in over 40 years. Tickets sold out in less than three days.
A crowd of approximately 2,500 fans will gather outside BC Place to watch the Whitecaps take on Liga MX club Cruz Azul in the Champions Cup Final in Mexico City. Vancouver is looking to become the first Canadian team to ever win this trophy, and just the second MLS club in the past 25 years.
The winner of Sunday’s match (6 p.m. PT on OneSoccer/Telus TV channel 980) can proudly claim to be the best team in North America, Central America, and the Caribbean.
The ticketed event will offer food and beverage options for purchase and has already raised $12,600 for Whitecaps FC Foundation, funding programs that help youth access soccer in underserved communities and promote environmental sustainability.
A win on Sunday would rival the 1979 Soccer Bowl as the greatest triumph in the Whitecaps’ 51-year franchise history. It would also earn Vancouver a spot in the 2025 FIFA Intercontinental Cup and the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup.
700+ Whitecaps fans in enemy territory
Over 700 fans are making the trip from Vancouver to Mexico City to cheer on the Whitecaps inside Estadio OlĆmpico Universitario, the club announced Thursday.
Vancouver is on one heck of a run, with an MLS-era record 15-match unbeaten streak across all competitions. On their way to the final of this competition, the Whitecaps have eliminated Deportivo Saprissa (Costa Rica), Mexican clubs CF Monterrey and Pumas UNAM, and Lionel Messi’s team of Inter Miami.
And now the Whitecaps just need one more win to be crowned the best team in North America, Central America, and the Caribbean.
