The Whitecaps today announced that the club had acquired Costa Rican midfielder Christian Bolaños on a multi-year contract from Primera División side Deportivo Saprissa.

The 31-year-old winger, who has twice represented his country at the FIFA World Cup finals, is Carl Robinson’s biggest acquisition of the off season as the Welsh coach looks to build on a successful outing in 2015.

“Christian is a proven winner,” Robinson said in a press release. “He’s a player we’ve coveted for a while and we’re delighted to add his wealth of experience to our club. Christian is a natural winger and we expect him to complement our young attacking players very well.”

“I’m very excited to join Whitecaps FC,” said Bolaños. “This is a new challenge for me and a big responsibility. I look forward to meeting my new teammates and getting training started for the new season. My goal is to help this club win a championship.”
