Whitecaps release adorable sea otter masks in support of Vancouver Aquarium
The Vancouver Whitecaps and the Vancouver Aquarium are collaborating on another new face mask.
This time the mask designs feature Joey, an orphaned sea otter pup rescued in July by the Vancouver Aquarium-affiliated Ocean Wise Marine Mammal Rescue Centre, from a remote beach on north Vancouver Island.
Joey has since become a global YouTube sensation, serving as an “emotional support otter” to people all over the world.
Thousands of Joey followers tune into the daily 24/7 live camera from as far away as Germany and Japan, while this video has been viewed 1.3 million times on YouTube:
Proceeds from the cute marine mammal design will help the Ocean Wise Conservation Association provide care for the animals at the Vancouver Aquarium. A not-for-profit operation, the Aquarium has been closed since September 8, because of the pandemic’s effect on business.
The Whitecaps helped save the Aquarium back in April, when a popular collaboration on face masks helped raise more than a million dollars.
Though its doors are temporarily closed to the public, the Aquarium is still home to 70,000 animals, so it still needs our help.
Plus, the Joey masks are absolutely adorable.
The new masks come in two different styles and range in price from $17.99 to $19.99. To purchase one of your own, head to the Vancouver Aquarium’s online store or visit the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Official Store at 385 Water Street in Gastown.
