Vancouver Whitecaps giving away FREE tickets for Saturday's match and here's how to get them

The Vancouver Whitecaps are giving away free tickets to fans who show some national pride.

The club has revealed the “True North Strong” promotion. Any fan who brings a Canadian flag to the Whitecaps store in Gastown will be given a free ticket to this Saturday’s match at BC Place. The exact address for the store is 358 Water St., near the Gastown Steam Clock.

The Whitecaps are facing off against CF Montreal in MLS action this weekend. They’ll be looking to continue their good play as they won their first two games of the season, getting off to their best start in seven years.

In total, 158 tickets are being given away through the “True North Strong” promotion. The contest will finish after that, so make sure to go early to ensure you get your hands on a free ticket.

You must be a resident of British Columbia and at least 19 years old to claim a free ticket through this giveaway.

The promotion comes as tensions between Canada and the United States are rising. President Donald Trump has enacted tariffs on Canada and said the northern neighbour should join his country as the 51st state. The result has been an outpouring of national pride across Canada, as well as plenty of disdain towards the United States, which has sometimes taken the form of booing the American national anthem at sporting events.

New manager Jesper Sørensen has the Whitecaps playing very well at the moment. They’re not only picking up wins in MLS competition, but they also tied the first leg of their CONCACAF Champions Cup matchup against strong Mexican side CF Monterrey. The deciding second match in that series will be played next Wednesday in Mexico.

If you don’t manage to get a free ticket for Saturday’s match through this promotion, there are some available for purchase. Seats start at $35 after taxes and fees for the match against Montreal.
