The Bug is back: Whitecaps FC sign Cristian Techera to multi-year contract

There was some good news for Whitecaps FC fans today after it was officially announced that midfielder Cristian Techera had signed multi-year deal with the club.

The diminutive Uruguayan, nicknamed ‘The Bug’ on account of his 5-foot-2 stature, originally joined Carl Robinson’s team in April last year on a season-long loan from Club Atlético River Plate Montevideo. However, after delivering seven goals and five assists during the Whitecaps’ run to the post-season last term, the club moved quickly to secure his services on a long-term basis.

“Cristian has shown in his first year that he’s a terrific young player,” said Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson. “He’s the type of player that gets fans out of their seats. We’re thrilled to have him remain with the club.”

Techera is just the latest piece of the puzzle for Carl Robinson’s team who have also acquired Japanese forward Masato Kudo and re-signed veteran defender Pa-Modou Kah, as the team looks to build on an impressive outing in 2015.
