It’s been a week to remember for the Whitecaps’ Kekuta Manneh. The 21-year-old Gambian forward was a key figure in the Whitecaps’ wins over the Chicago Fire and Toronto FC scoring two goals and two assists.
Firstly, Manneh was the provider on Blas Pérez’s stunning bicycle kick goal against the Fire. Pérez’s last minute winner sent Vancouver fans into a frenzy, and gave them something positive to talk about after witnessing the horrific collision that left striker Masato Kudo with a broken jaw earlier in the match.
On Saturday night against Toronto FC, Manneh had a game to remember scoring two goals and assisting on Pedro Morales’ 72nd minute tally.
Additionally, Manneh started the play that ultimately lead to Christian Bolaños’ goal in the 18th minute.
Manneh’s second goal against TFC was a beauty. The youngster made a couple of beautiful moves – including one that completely turned former Whitecap Steven Beitashour inside out – before beating TFC ‘keeper Clint Irwin with a low shot at the near post.
Manneh struggled with his form earlier in the year while he was still recovering from an ankle injury suffered during last year’s playoffs. The youngster they call ‘Scooter’ has now scored three goals this season, and is on track to surpass the career-high seven goals he recorded in 2015.
But clearly with those moves surely we can say that the real Kekuta Manneh is back.
