Whitecaps FC to play for Amway Canadian Championship on August 26 (CONTEST)
Will this be the year? Mention the Amway Canadian Championship to Whitecaps FC fans and you’re sure to get some unhappy responses – some might even mention a curse.
The ‘Caps have never won the nationwide competition, finishing as runners-up in five of the last six seasons. But this could all change on Wednesday night as the blue and white get set to face Montreal Impact in the second leg of their championship series. A Montreal Impact team stocked with the international superstar Didier Drogba, who will suit up in Wednesday’s match.

Heading into Wednesday’s match, the ‘Caps hold a slight advantage after scoring two road goals in the first leg on August 12 in Montreal. Although the two sides played to a 2-2 draw, as a result of the two away goals, Whitecaps FC will be crowned champions with any of these results:
- A scoreless draw
- A 1-1 draw
- A win
