Vancouver Whitecaps attendance is on the rise at BC Place

There’s a massive momentum shift happening right outside of the Georgia Viaduct in Vancouver.

On the north side of the viaduct, the Vancouver Canucks are stinking up the joint at Rogers Arena, after they recently failed to record more home wins in a season than the expansion Vancouver Grizzlies.

South of the viaduct, however, the Whitecaps are continuing to provide full value to their paying customers.

Not only are they putting on theatrical performances at BC Pace, but they’re seemingly able to turn decent games into epic ones.

On Saturday at home against the Portland Timbers, the Whitecaps erased a 2-1 deficit and scored two goals during stoppage time, snatching victory from the proverbial jaws of defeat against their West Coast rivals.

Come to think of it, perhaps the momentum shift surrounding the Georgia Viaduct is one of tectonic proportions.

The Whitecaps have had a home-heavy schedule to start their MLS season, with five of their first six games coming at BC Place.

In those games, the ‘Caps have won four of their five games, outscoring the opposition 13-3 in the process.

The Whitecaps are winning, they’re entertaining, and that’s reflected in the growing attendance figures.

Through five home games this season, Vancouver has averaged 23,738 per match at BC Place. That’s a noticeable uptick compared to the first five home games last season, when the Whitecaps averaged 19,059 fans for home matches.

Early in the season, attendance figures for Whitecaps games at BC Place are already up 24.5 per cent.

Last season, the Whitecaps’ average attendance for regular-season action was 20,529. However, attendance was regularly above the 26,000 mark once Thomas Müller joined the team last August.

Another factor that’s helped attendance in 2026 has been the fact that there’s now a larger season ticket holder base. A club source said that over 3,000 people signed up for season tickets in the offseason, bringing the base above 14,000.

The Whitecaps currently rank 11th in the MLS in average attendance this season. However, some teams ahead of them, like Los Angeles FC, DC United, and New York City FC, have been buoyed by massive attendance figures for games featuring Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi.

So far in 2026, the Caps aren’t bringing in fans because of a star on the opposing team. They’re packing BC Place because they’re fun to watch.

The Whitecaps have three more home games in April, before taking a 98-day break between matches at BC Place as Vancouver prepares to host the FIFA World Cup.
