Once again, Whistler comes out on top among North American ski resorts. SKI Magazine readers voted Whistler Blackcomb as the number one destination to slice into some fresh powder for the second year in a row.

“Whistler Blackcomb offers today’s skiers and riders one of the finest resort experiences anywhere,” said SKI Magazine publisher Allen Crolius in a statement.

“From big-mountain skiing to a base village that sets the standard for mountain resorts, Whistler Blackcomb earned its top ranking from our readers.”

The magazine asks readers to rank the top 50 ski resorts in North America via an online poll. A variety of factors are considered such as lodging, scenery and lifts, all of which Whistler scored highly on.

The resort also moved up 11 spots since last year in grooming quality, 15 spots in access and four spots in kid friendliness and family programming as well as two spots in service.

Interestingly, not only did Whistler come in at number one, but it was the only Canadian resort to breach the top 10 spot. Sunshine Village was the second highest Canadian spot, ranking at number 12.

Whistler’s official opening day is for November 26, but the resort has already seen its first snow of the season back in the beginning of September. Despite this, experts estimate that the El Niño effect from last year will get stronger, hampering possible snowfalls.

Here is a list of the top ten ski resorts in North America:

  1. Whistler Blackcomb, B.C.
  2. Sun Valley, Idaho
  3. Deer Valley, Utah
  4. Telluride, Colorado
  5. Jackson Hole, Wyoming
  6. Snowmass, Colorado
  7. Vail, Colorado
  8. Steamboat, Colorado
  9. Whitefish Mountain Resort, Montana
  10. Beaver Creek, Colorado
