Skiers, boarders, and Australians, make sure you don’t pack your things too soon – Whistler Blackcomb is extending their ski season by a week to May 30 because of all the snow they have.

In fact, Whistler Blackcomb spokesperson Sarah Morden tells Vancity Buzz that they’ve had a whopping 1,177 centimetres of snow so far this season, with more to come. In the last 24 hours alone, it snowed 12 centimetres on Whistler mountain, and more is expected throughout the week until Friday.

“It’s been really busy – it’s spring break across Canada and the States, and we’ve seen a lot of people up here having a really good time,” she said.

It seems the good times have been rolling in for the entire season: As of February 8, total visits for the 2015-16 season were 1.14 million, representing a year-over-year increase of 21% and the most visitors they’ve had in a year to date.

“Spring skiing is really, really amazing in Whistler and I think people start to forget it when Vancouver’s cherry blossoms are out, we still have really fun skiing up here – even better because you can do it in a t-shirt,” says Morden.

She adds the World Ski and Snowboard Festival is coming in April – another reason to strap on your skis and get up to Whistler this spring.
