Yes, you are crazy if you either 1) position the toilet paper facing the wall or 2) camp out at Whistler at 3pm preceding opening day just hoping to get first gondola. If you missed the opening of Whistler last Friday and you’re wondering what the details are for the first Whistler Tweetup this Thursday, then keep reading.
Hoping to catch an early start to the season I showed up at the Whistler village early Friday morning excited to finally get back into my groove after my short stint in Africa last summer. The feeling I got was exactly the same as when my parents told me Santa Claus wasn’t real: the Whistler gondola line was huge! But all of this was not in vain, because at opening Maelle Ricker, Snowboard Cross gold medalist, was given a lifetime season pass for her awesome effort during the Olympics. Ricker was also interviewed by ESPN, rare for a Canadian athlete.
Right as first gondola was launched everyone in the village got the best sight as the morning sun came out. The rest of the day was just as orgasmic. A fresh foot of snow made for some great riding around Emerald chair. For those of you interested in Harmony, it’s shaping up good but there are still a lot of rocks. I suggest waiting to check it out until after Thursday’s snow.
Speaking of Thursday, Whistler’s first Tweetup is Nov 25th! There are rumours that Ashley McIvor will be attending this one, and professional skier Mike Douglas will be the host. If those names don’t perk your interest then you have issues.
So what are the details? Show up from 3pm-6pm at the Garibaldi Lift Company (right next to Whistler gondola in main village) on November 25th and meet some the Whistler crew and also get a chance to win one of the long list of prizes they have created.
Just a heads up that parking lots 1, 2, and 3 are now pay parking. This was done during the Olympics, and not a lot of us were happy about it. But no need to fret, lots 4 and 5 by Whistler Village are still free and on weekends there’s a shuttle bus, too.

Weather says more snow is going to fall in Whis this Thursday. Add that to a Tweetup with maybe McIvor, Douglas, and an excuse to go to Whistler, you know you want to ride and spank that.
