Whistler Mountain to open early November 19

Dec 20 2017, 2:27 am

With heavy snowfall accumulating this week, Whistler Mountain has announced they will open one week ahead of schedule on November 19.

They were originally set to open on November 26 along with Blackcomb Mountain, but with a base of 50 cm as of Thursday morning, it seems winter has come early.

The mountain snow report states that 21 cm of snow has fallen just in the last 24 hours alone, and more is in the forecast throughout the next few days. Around 20 to 30 cm is expected to fall on Thursday, 15 to 30 cm Thursday night and 10 to 15 cm on Friday. Cumulatively, 98 cm has fallen so far this season with 63 cm of that coming down in the last week.

And on top of an early dumping of snow, the newly renovated Rendezvous Lodge will be opening its doors to skiers and snowboarders everywhere. The Okanagan’s Big White resort is also benefiting from the favourable weather and has announced an early-open date of Friday, November 13. This is the earliest the mountain has opened since the 2001/2002 season. Unlike Whistler, Blackcomb will stick to the November 26 open date.
