A long-running Whistler hotel was given an award by Rolling Stone earlier this week.
As part of the 2025 Rolling Stone Travel Awards, the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, which was built back in 1989, was named the best ski resort.
“Over the past year, we logged thousands of miles in the air and on the ground to find the best gear, destinations, and services that you need to know about,” Rolling Stone says.

Rolling Stone calls the Fairmont Chateau Whistler “breathtaking” and offers several reasons why it is the best ski resort in its 2025 travel awards.
“At the foot of North America’s largest ski resort lies the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, a hotel that feels like something straight out of a storybook.”
Rolling Stone says that it’s hard to imagine a better location for a ski resort and destination for skiers who are “blessed with a long snow season and true ski-in/ski-out access to the new Blackcomb Gondola.”

But it’s what’s on the inside that counts, right?
Well, Rolling Stone says that inside the chateau, visitors will find a “surprisingly” warm and welcoming ambiance, which it describes as feeling more like a country retreat than a chain hotel.
Visitors will also find “roaring fireplaces, rustic wooden accents, and a truly excellent spa.”
“As fine as the comforts are here, it’s also entirely unfussy enough to feel like you can trudge through with your boots still on — the sign of a perfect ski hotel.”
Fairmont Whistler’s award makes it the only Canadian location mentioned by Rolling Stone.
Fairmont Whistler aside, we need to ask you, where’s Ja? The 2025 travel awards featured a section called “Ja Rule’s Travel Picks.”
If you’ve ever wondered what Rule’s favourite vacation cocktail was, well, this is the answer: an Amber Rush, which is Amber and Opal whiskey, honey and lemon juice. Rolling Stone also asked Rule what is currently on his travel playlist, and his answer was Jhené Aiko.
