Where to watch the Gold Medal Game in Vancouver

Dec 19 2017, 5:46 pm

After Team Canada’s huge win against Team USA on Friday, the question came to everyone’s minds: “Where am I going to watch the Gold Medal Game?”

You could stay home in your PJs… but IT’S THE GOLD MEDAL GAME.

Being on the west coast, we get the worst timing – 4 a.m. PST. But that’s not going to stop us from waking up or pulling that all nighter. Our fellow countrymen need our support, and we’re going to make sure they can hear us cheering all the way in Sochi!

After teeter-tottering over the issue, the B.C. government has allowed bars to stay open late or open early for Sunday’s game. However, there will be no liquor service allowed.

While other cities in other provinces (Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario) are allowing liquor service, our provincial government has decided not to. In a release, the government stated the following:

“In the interest of health and public safety, liquor service hours will remain unchanged. This means that the earliest liquor service can begin for all establishments on either day is 9 a.m., but only for those establishments whose licences allow it. For those pubs/bars that choose to extend their operating hours, unfinished liquor must be taken from patrons within 30 minutes of when liquor service hours end. Patrons will not be allowed to consume liquor after that time.”

One restaurant manager I spoke to said that while they do want to open early, it doesn’t make business sense as the lack of liquor sales will hurt them financially.
