Now the sun is shining and the days are getting longer, Vancouver’s sunsets are starting to look spectacular, as they bathe our big skies in pink, blue and gold.

Here are are some of the best places to watch sunsets right here in the city.

The lookout on Cypress Mountain is one of the best spots for skygazing in Vancouver – whether you’re looking for meteor showers, the aurora borealis or just a plain old sunset.

Kits Beach

For a more relaxed beach sunset, head to Kits beach, where folks play guitar, slackline and just wander along the shore, taking it all in. If you’re lucky, you might even see a whale.

Grouse Mountain

If you need to reach a mountain lookout on public transit, then Grouse Mountain is for you. Take the bus to the bottom, get up there by gondola, relax in the restaurant – then bask in the golden glory of your sunset view over Vancouver.

Wreck Beach

For an alternative sunset, climb down the 400 steps to Wreck Beach out at UBC. Clothing may be optional, but sun worshipping is expected at the nightly nudist sunset ritual.

English Bay

If you can find a friend who lives in a high rise facing English Bay, invite yourself round and share their gorgeous view over some drinks as the sun sets. Perfect.

Cloud 9 Restaurant

The Cloud 9 restaurant, on the 42nd Floor of The Empire Landmark Hotel on Robson Street, is open for dinner every day from 5 pm to 10 pm. The food may be pricey, but the views are priceless.

How could we leave out Sunset Beach? You may not get any peace or quiet there in the summer, but it’s a great place to catch those last few rays with friends before partytime.

The Galley

The Galley, beachside at the Jericho Sailing Centre, is open till sunset every day. You’ll get a fantastic view as the sun sets and burns up the skies over downtown Vancouver, Stanley Park, the North Shore Mountains, Bowen Island, and the Strait of Georgia.

The Seawall

There’s nothing quite like feeling the dusky breeze in your hair as you ride home along the seawall, only to be surprised by the red and gold skies dancing before your eyes.

The Wicklow

The classic patio with a view, The Wicklow overlooks False Creek and offers sunset summer evenings with cold beers and fresh food. Watch the sun go down behind the dock and dream about owning one of the sailboats bobbing just below your feet.
