How many old cellphones do you have gathering dust at home? What are you going to do with that old iMac that’s permanently shut down, but you just can’t bear to throw out?
We’re really good at recycling everything else – and we all know we should recycle electronics too. But it can feel tough to find anywhere to do that in Vancouver.
Since we don’t have curbside collection of old iPhones yet, here’s a quick rundown of where you can recycle your old electronics in Vancouver.
Free Electronics Drop-Off
- What: The City of Vancouver is holding a free recycling event this Saturday, for you to drop off your old electronics, small appliances, power tools and batteries.
- Where: Sunrise Square Parking Lot – 2500 Franklin Street,Vancouver
- When: Saturday, May 7, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Free Geek
- What: At Free Geek, you can donate most computer-related equipment, new or old, working or not, free of charge. It will either be rebuilt and reused – by their volunteers, local community organizations, or their thrift store – or recycled as locally, ethically, and sustainably as possible.
- Where: Free Geek – 1820 Pandora Street, Vancouver
- When: Donations accepted Tuesday – Saturday, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Encorp Return It
- What: This federally incorporated, not-for-profit corporation accepts a range of electronics, including computers, at multiple locations across Vancouver.

Regional Recycling
- What: Regional Recycling handles only end-of-life products, which means non-functioning electronics products and those that are beyond repair.
- Where: Regional Recycling – 960 Evans Avenue Vancouver
- When: Open seven days a week, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

London Drugs
- What: London Drugs offers free end-of-life electronics recycling for items purchased in store. Customers can drop off items for recycling at any store location.

Think Recycle
- What: If you fancy spreading your recycling net a little wider, the Think Recycle program allows its members to earn money by collecting and donating old electronics for recycling.

Electronic Recycling Association
- What: The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is a non-profit that picks up a wide range of electronics, in any condition, then reuses or recycles them.
- Where: No depots in Vancouver, but scheduled pickup is available.

Transfer Station Recycling Depot
- What: The City’s depot accepts cell phones (including batteries) for recycling for free and a maximum of five electronics items, small appliances, and power tools for a fee.
- Where: Vancouver South Transfer Station and Recycling Depot – 377 West Kent Avenue North, Vancouver
- When: Monday to Friday, 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

- What: The City’s landfill accepts cell phones (including batteries), specific electronics, small appliances, and power tools for recycling for free.
