Where to drink at UBC

Dec 20 2017, 1:14 am

With school going back it seems fitting that we turn our attention towards local watering holes, where students can unwind after a long day of lectures. At UBC there are a handful of places to enjoy a pint or two. Check out these spots where you can do just that and more.

The successor of AMS’ legendary student bar, The Pit at the Nest, is a great spot to watch the game, grab a bite to eat, and throw back a drink or two. Home to a fancy new sound system, a spacious dance floor, a refreshed and affordable gastro-pub menu, and an extensive drink list carrying a range of local craft beer and cocktails, The Pit certainly proves its worth after a long day of starring at the books.

Biercraft Westbook

Located on Shrum Lane, Biercraft’s UBC branch is a great place to enjoy a brew or two. The unpretentious Westbrook Village spot offers an extensive selection of Northwest craft beer and import beer, largely from Belgium and Germany.

Koerner’s Pub

This casual and noticeably hipster tavern on campus, serves elevated pub grub and a selection of craft beers. In addition to ales, lagers, and IPA’s (which can be purchased by the pint or growler), Koerner’s also offers a variety of wines, cocktails, highballs and shots. Playing host to live performances throughout the week and featuring an inviting outdoor patio make Koerner’s a favourite haunt for many students.

Mahony & Sons

This traditional Irish pub guarantees good times, with its relaxed vibe, comfort food and free-flowing Guinness. For the non-beer drinkers Mahony & Sons also offers a selection of wine and spirits. The campus pub also features a solid list of standard pub fare, live music, and world and local sports on Satellite HDTV.

Bimini

Sometimes you simply need to break away from campus, leaving all those university stresses behind. If this resonates with you, join fellow UBCers and really let you hair hang down, with a night of debauchery at The Bimini Public House. Pouring a variety of craft and domestic beer, in addition to an enticing list of cocktails, and playing host to live music and karaoke nights, Bimini promises to be a consistently fun night out. Head on over on Tuesdays and enjoy a schooner of Parallel 49 Craft lager for just two bucks!

Address: 2010 West 4th Avenue

Dentry’s Irish Grill

Situated just outside the bounds of the UBC Campus, Dentry’s Irish Grill is a popular spot for UBC students to hang. A little rough around the edges, Dentry’s provides a chilled space, (where you can always get a seat) to drink the night away with friends. Dentry’s is also open a little later than surrounding establishments, which is a big plus.

Address: 4450 10th Avenue
Phone: 604-224-3434
