Here's what Canadians watched on Netflix this year

The social isolations that were imposed on Canadians this year as a result of the coronavirus pandemic made many of us turn to Netflix to pass the time.

So what were the viewing habits of Canadians like during 2020?

According to Netflix Canada, this year, Canadians watched more than twice as much K-Drama than in 2019. Kingdom and The King: Eternal Monarch were the most popular titles in the genre.

This year was also the year of reality television, with shows like Love is Blind, The Last Dance, Tiger King and Unsolved Mysteries ranking in the top 10 for more than 30 days in 2020.

With quarantine cooking and baking trends firing up in the spring, Netflix searches for baking shows in Canada shot up by 81% from March to April, and searches for cooking shows went up by 65% in the same time frame.

Netflix Canada reported that thrillers remained one of the most viewed genres for Canadians for the months of March, April, and May, with titles like Ozark, Dangerous Lies, and Inheritance being some of the most popular choices.

Non-English language titles were also popular among Canadians this year, with the most-watched being, The Platform (El Hoyo) of Spain, Barbarians (Barbaren) of Germany, Money Heist (La casa de papel) of Spain, and The Beast (La Belva) of Italy.

Finally, the rest of the world watched Canada too with Vikings hitting the top 10 list in 68 different countries around the world. Code 8 also managed to do the same in 58 different countries, and the first-ever Quebec Original Film on the streaming site, The Decline, landed on the top 10 list in 11 countries worldwide.
