Local poke restaurant reopening with discounted bowls and take-home kits

With so much fresh seafood and produce right on our doorstep, it’s no wonder that Vancouver is having a poke moment. A little taste of Hawaii is the closest that most of us will get to a tropical vacation this year, and each bowl tastes so damn good that we might not actually mind.

Westcoast Poké, in particular, scores all of the brownie points with us. With a location on West 8th Avenue and another on Steveston Highway in Richmond, it’s a staple in our local food scene.

Like many restaurants across the city, Westcoast Poké has felt the impacts of the ongoing crisis. It was forced to close its Richmond location on March 16, but thanks to unwavering support from Vancouverites, the poke purveyor was able to reopen on May 11.

To demonstrate how much this ongoing support means during these times, Westcoast Poké is launching a “Thank You” initiative with discounted takeout bowls and take-home kits until June 30.

This starts with a $10 deal for a snack size Westcoast classic and a Westcoast lemonade or iced tea, or you can upgrade to a regular size bowl for $2 or a large for $4. This is available only in-store for takeout orders.

If you’re new to Westcoast Poké, the snack size offering includes two-ounces of the protein of your choice (ahi tuna, albacore tuna, sockeye salmon, Atlantic salmon, sous-vide chicken, prawn, or vegan ahimi) served on a base of white rice, brown rice, or organic greens, with mix-ins (chilli flakes or cilantro, anyone?), toppings, sauce, and finishes.

The aforementioned deal applies to the equally tasty yet unique Westcoast classic bowls on the menu: the Cascade, Pacific, Coast, Tidal, Spirit, and Smoke.

What sets Westcoast Poké apart (and fulfills every poke-lover’s desires) is the fact that you can get unlimited mix-ins, toppings, and finishes with each bowl. Plus, the restaurant isn’t missing any of the poke essentials that complete a meal like crab salad, fresh mango, edamame, and spicy seaweed salad.

As another way to say thank you to locals, Westcoast Poké has launched the Westcoast Store. This means you can stay safe at home and order everything from meal kits, to groceries (avocados, potatoes, crab salad, sockeye salmon fillets, and much more). Plus, you’ll soon be able to order bowls for pickup via the Westcoast Poké website.

Meal kit options include market-style poke, baked salmon (two ways), tuna tartare, and nori chips.

Each order will also support those in need in the community; the store is currently donating a portion of sales to the Vancouver Food Bank. All delivery fees (100%) will be donated directly to the food bank, and if you order for pickup, you can add a donation that way.

We’re currently living through uncertain times, which is why it feels even better to treat yourself to nourishing food while supporting local businesses and community initiatives at the same time.

Visit the Westcoast Store now to place your first order, or stop by your nearest Westcoast Poké location to order for takeout.
