The owner of a $5-million mansion in West Vancouver’s British Properties neighbourhood has been charged with second-degree murder.

Li Zhao was originally charged for interfering with a dead body after investigators determined he allegedly cut up the body of a 42-year-old male victim. Since the original charge, another charge of second-degree murder has been placed on Zhao.

On the evening of Saturday, May 2, West Vancouver Police and Vancouver Police responded to reports of a ‘violent confrontation’ at home on the 900-block of King George’s Way. The home was immediately secured for forensic examination.

The identity of the deceased is not known, but it is believed he knew Zhao.

More charges could be laid on Zhao, who is scheduled to appear again in provincial court today.
