Aug 4 2017, 12:19 am

There’s a free 10-day visual art showcase coming to West Vancouver.

The highly-anticipated 27th annual Harmony Arts Festival presented by Odlum Brown Limited is hosting a series of free inspirational events on the North Shore from August 4 to 13.

You’ll get to enjoy everything from live music performances, to mouth-watering food events, film, literature, and, of course, beautiful visual art.

And more than 130,000 visitors are expected to attend throughout the festival’s schedule of events taking place along the waterfront in West Vancouver.

We’ve rounded up the top five art installations that you can enjoy at this year’s Harmony Arts Festival.

Home, Shelter, Belonging

This exhibit examines contemporary and historic concepts of home related to one’s place of birth and the recreation of a sense of belonging in another country. The symbolic meaning of structures will be explored and expressed through different mediums. Artist Hani Al Moulia’s photographs will be displayed in an award-winning modular emergency
shelter developed in Sweden by Better Shelter in partnership with the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the Ikea Foundation.

When: August 4 to 13, 11 am to 9 pm
Where: Better Shelter, Millennium Park East – West Vancouver
Price: Free

Featured artist: Pierre Coupey, Achilles’ Shield III (2017)

This collection is the third set of four round paintings that allude to a mythological shield Achilles carried into battle after the death of Patroclus, as presented by Homer in his epic poem the Iliad. You’ll want to see Artist Coupey’s versions which evoke the heat of summer and a cosmological dance.
