The West End's massive lit up whale needs a name

Dec 20 2017, 3:03 am

The Lumiere Whale in Morton Park needs a name, and only the people of Vancouver can help.

As part of the Lumiere Festival Vancouver, the West End Business Improvement Association is asking people to submit potential names for the bright white whale to Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram using #LumiereWhale. The winner will receive a $150 gift certification to the Beach Bay Cafe and Patio, and the knowledge that your idea will be immortalized in light.

Hand-crafted in Slovakia by MK Illumination, the seven metre long orca sculpture contains over 6,000 white LED bulbs, chosen for their environmentally friendly construction. The entire sculpture only uses 177 watts and 36v of electricity, less than the energy used in running an average refrigerator for a day.
